Happy Sunday Truth Seekers! The Gospel of Mark is winding down; or up I should say theologically speaking. We are approaching the final five chapters and it begins with the chapter 11 the triumphal entry into Jerusalem. You remember he road on a colt that had never been ridden. The people cried Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Well he started off by cleansing the temple of money changers. The priest and the keepers of the law (church) people tried to find ways to kill him. They did not want to kill because he was teaching wrong doctrine, but because his teaching amazed the people. Righteousness always will come with a price of opposition. The people with the most to lose if change comes will do anything to maintain their position of power. Murder, someone physically is extreme, but "character assassination" is a play the opposition runs too. I am reminded of what God said to Cain, "If you do what is right, will you not be accepted?
Isaiah 43-44: teaches us that God continues to be faithful to Israel regardless of their refusal to obey and honor Him. The Lord points out how foolish it is to bow down to idols in prayer. An idols is something that man carves himself out of wood. The same stock of wood is used for the fire, the baking and the molding of gods. How can help come from a God you make. The message is clear rely on the Lord God or perish. Israel continues to not only ignore God but insult him by ignoring his commandments, and refusing to bring the appropriate offerings. Destruction comes by the sin of their own hands, but restoration will come from the hand of God.
