Good Morning Truth Seekers! Isaiah 5 is full of imagery and one must drive slowly to get the picture. Isaiah is reflecting on the disappointment and the judgement of God. He uses the vineyard analogy to say he planted, nurtured and expected food fruit. He is speaking of Judah, and his people. However, because of the bad fruit, the consequences will be bad. He is speaking of those who choose to ignore the Word of God, and pursue fleshly and worldly desires. All of those will who do will perish and those things they desired over God will decay or go wasted.
chapter 6. Isaiah is called to a job to proclaim God's word to a people who will not yield. As did Moses was called to tell Pharaoh to let God's people go, but he would not. However, God calls Isaiah to do this from on high and Isaiah accepted. God will deal with those who do not turn toward him, and at the end of the day there will be a remnant of righteousness that will then be the foundation the Lord will build upon. God calls us to a certain part, let him worry about the rest. We do not have to understand, but we are expected to obey the orders we get.
Mark 2: In chapter two it is easy to over look the faith of the friends in looking at the healing. But it is the faith that brings the healing.(5) Nay Sayers are always looking for cause to cast blame. They miss the power of God looking at the politics of tradition. Jesus is beginning to establish His authority on earth. He chooses his team mates to assist in this, and Levi who was a publican is a prime candidate because of his imperfections. Jesus says (17) he has come for the sick, the healthy do not need a doctor. I think we forget where we come from, dirty people have dirty friends. Meaning when I played in the dirt with my friends we all went home dirty. Levi's friends are welcome to the table with Jesus, as we are and our friends. Lastly, I believe that verses 18-28 is to drive the point that Jesus is more interested in being in relationship than our being religious.
