Good morning truth seekers! Leviticus 17-20 covers a lot of ground regarding what to do and what not to do when it comes to being holy and clean. I often acknowledge that God has thought of everything. What to eat, what to wear, and how to live. But these four chapters are so eloquently summized in 19: 1 Be holy for I the Lord am holy. God who is holy must be approached with reverence for His holiness. Meaning that we cannot live any way we want and expect the God to deal with us as if we were. There are a lot of rules here, but loving God and honoring his commandments make us better and our lives are free from what sin brings; death. Which is separation from God his provisions, guidance and preventions. You do not want to live that way! It is not living at all.
Hebrews 13: Paul wraps up his letter with be faithful; God is with you. Do not be turned back toward making animal sacrifices. Jesus has established a new covenant and has become the sacrifice that cleanses all sin. He requires praise and honor given to his name, and actions like taking care of one another and the poor. In verse 17 he instructs them to obey the leaders and submit to their authority. He says they will be held accountable by God, but their behavior could make their work enjoyable rather than burdensome. I get this, parents have peace according to how their kids live, if a parent has to constantly worry about a child it hinders their joy and work. Pastors are the same, if the flock constantly lives disobediently, it takes away joy and bring a need for constant rebuke. No one wants to always be the heavy, and even God wants to share in our good times, happy times and our celebration of peace.
