Genesis 16-17 Romans 6

Toady's reading in Genesis 16 can be summed up in; don't give up on God. He will do everything he says he will. His ability to deliver is never hindered by our lack of patience. However, we might limit what God does through us. Even with Abraham it seemed that he could not give up or get fired. The story regarding Hagar reminds me that regardless of what you are experiencing, don't add sin to it. It will always compound things. I am amazed at Sarahs blaming Abraham for her trouble from Hagar. I think that was about knowing that she was now socially moved up the ranks as the child bearer. And that was the battle going on with she and Sarah. It was a blessing to be able to reproduce for your husband but more shame if you could not. And to have boy child was Godly. God reminds him of the covenant, not renews it. God said it, so there was never a time that it was off. Please notice that Ishmael was blessed, but did not receive the blessing of the covenant. God was not going to give that glory away to impatience. So yes, a 100 year old man will father a child, and there would be no doubt God did it.
Romans 6 is important for us to understand that our belief in Jesus parallels his life, death and resurrection when it comes to sin. He died to it, so we through baptism die to sin and are raised in new life with Christ. Furthermore, as we were slaves to sin, now we are slaves to righteousness and should never again take orders from it. We belong to God and now live by his commands. We have to always check every thought and deed against who gave the order; sin or righteousness. Romans 6:23 is to live by read it and commit it to heart.
